Walt Kowalski is a widower, grumpy, tough-minded, borderline-hateful, unhappy old man who can't get along with either his kids or his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1973 Gran Torino he keeps in cherry condition. When his neighbor Tao, a young Hmong teenager, tries to steal his Gran Torino, Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn against his will into the life of Tao's family, Kowalski is soon taking steps to protect them form the gangs that foul their neighborhood.

A Short Love Story - Carlos Lascano

Carlos is a multi-faceted artist who has successfully made incursions into painting, illustration, comics, photography, animation and special effects. He finally decided that filmmaking was his medium of choice because it represented the coming together of the different forms of expression of his artistic universe. In 1997, he completed Law School, but decided not to practice and to dedicate his career entirely to his art creation.
He has written numerous short and feature films. Many of them have earned him international awards.He has worked in advertising with large Argentinian and international corporations, such as McDonald´s, Fate Tires, Telefónica, among others.
In 1998 he concluded his first feature film, "Marionettes", for which he received the Silver Prize as "Best Experimental Feature Film" in the United States´ Worldfest Flagstaff.
In 2000 he was awarded the Georges Meliès Prize for his work "Les Amants", and was sent to Paris to meet with large local production companies. The film has been recently chosen to be published as one of the best short films that won the Georges Meliès.
In 2002 Carlos arrived in Spain to film, by request of Television de Catalunya, a remake of his second feature film, "Perverse Game". From that moment on he started working nonstop as filmmaker, editor, script writer, special effects supervisor and animator for cinema, television, documentaries and advertisement, not only for Spain but also France, Italy, United Kingdom and the United States. He wrote and directed video clips for recognized Spanish musicians and has worked with important artists like Javier Bardem, Alex de la Iglesia, among others.
He has been in charge of the Edition and Postproduction Department in "In Vitro Films" (Barcelona) for three years.
His original artwork, editing and animation directing of "The Legend of the Scarecrow" earned the short film over 20 awards worldwide, and a pre-selection to the 2005 Oscar Academy Awards.
He is currently working freelance at the head of his team developing some of his new own projects. These include video clips, feature films and animation shorts.

Honda The Power of Dreams

The Power of Dreams is an extended promotional ad for Honda (Italia), though the company has got a glossy video for themselves from 28 year old Michele D’Auria's romantic vision as he traces the first steps for the founder of the international giant. Soichiro Honda is shown in his early days, cycling with his friend, then working towards his dream in workshop and at the drawing board. The night scenes, the moon much in evidence, give the young man something to dream about other than the developing bike, which with motor attached culminated in the founding in 1949 of Honda as we know it. The ten minute video is very much in homage to the great man - no harm in that as I drive one of his dream machines myself. The screenshots say it all though they cannot reveal the lush soundtrack music of Lino Cannavacciuolo that elevates the whole piece quite wonderfully. Michele has selected another excellent colleague in Simone Prisco whose backgrounds are delectable. (I am researching backgrounds at the moment for a forthcoming post.) The voice in the English version is Ken Belton, suitably resonant and perhaps just hinting at one of those automated, persuasive guides selling the virtues of historic houses. I must mention the mix of styles as the drawings, diagrams and pencils come alive to illustrate the developments though being a softie I guess I prefer the idyllic Japanese landscapes. A great commission for Michel and he more than justifies Honda's trust in him.

SKJULT er historien om en ung mann, Kai Koss (KK), som motvillig vender tilbake til hjemstedet sitt 19 år etter at han rømte fra sin grusomme mor. Moren er død, og KK har arvet det nå forfalne huset han vokste opp i. Han ønsker bare å gjøre opp boet og forlate stedet. Men med arven følger en rekke mørke hemmeligheter.

KK har brukt nesten to tiår på å glemme sin plagede barndom, men når han kommer tilbake til den avsidesliggende vestlandsbygden rykker fortiden inn med full kraft, og han finner seg kastet tilbake i alt han har forsøkt å fortrenge, i en virkelighet han trodde han hadde forlatt. Ikke alle er like begeistret for hans hjemkomst, og når to ungdommer på skogstur blir sporløst borte begynner problemene å melde seg for alvor.
SKJULT er en dyster og ladet fortelling som trenger inn i den menneskelige psykes innerste rom. Filmen utforsker de ofte skremmende spenningsfeltene mellom minne og virkelighet, mellom fortid og nåtid, og konfronterer oss med de lange skyggene våre mørkeste hemmeligheter kaster.
SKJULT er laget av samme manusforfatter, regissør, fotograf og produsent som sto bak kinosuksessen Villmark (2003). SKJULT er spilt inn på locations i Bergen og Eidfjord.
